The Slab: Z.O.R.T. Black Project #2 commences

Now that I have some zombies ready to game with I am beginning the second Z.O.R.T. Black Project - the Krauss Maffei Wegmann Keilerkopf UFV - well actually, DreamForge Games Keilerkopf APC, but I thought I'd give it a bit of "real world" fluff by saying it's a vehicle manufactured by KMW, the people that make Germany's Leopard tanks and Puma IFVs. This project looks like it's going to take a while to complete -

This kit has tons of parts and a crapload of features, but I'm better at building and painting vehicles, so I hope to knock this out fairly soon.

The Slab: Grindin' out the Zeds - First horde done

I managed to finish the first horde a little while ago - only because I changed up the way I'm going to be painting hordes from now on. I decided that since I need a lot of zombies quickly so that I can have any hope of actually playing a game of All Things Zombie within the next month, I must develop a color "speed" palette. I figured that since these are just a mass of decaying, festering corpses that are pretty messy, why should I bother with painting the clothes? A wash will suffice. I saw something similar on another blog (I think it was either Mongo's Wafflehouse or Doctor Merkury's Lab, don't remember which) where they painted their zombies in gray-scale, thus reducing the time it took to finish a bunch of zombies. So I adapted that plan for my use, using the Reaper MSP Zombie Flesh Triad with MSP Flesh Wash. It seems to work pretty good, so I plan on using this method for zombie hordes from now on. I will still paint up special zombies with a lot more detail, like the first eight I finished -

Now I need to put together another 4 boxes of zombies. At least it shouldn't be as daunting as I feared.

The Slab: Grindin' out the Zeds WIP #2

Knocked a few more zeds out over the last couple of days -

I went back and touched up the Zombie Vixen's evening gown, it was too clean -

I also added something to the palette of zombie skin tones : Flesh Wash and Black Red Wash. The Flesh Wash for overall use and the Black Red Wash for the wounds on their bodies.

The Slab: Grindin' out the Zeds WIP #1

Following BZA Bob's advice, I'm grindin' out the zeds. I've got the basic skin tones and sunken eye sockets on the first batch of 32 done -

Next I'll add the putrescent eyeballs and the hair and begin the gore effects. I am trying to paint these quickly to a decent tabletop standard, as I'm going to need to knock out at least another 130 zeds ( barring I don't order more next payday ).

The Slab: Paint Test Zed

I finished my first zombie since I did some on the old The Quick and the Zed back in 2013, so it might look a bit wonky -

One down, 95 more to go, plus 66 more heading this way in the mail - never can have enough zeds!

The Slab: Z.O.R.T. Black Project #1 Kamov Ka-77 Harbinger Attack Helicopter

Yesterday I repainted a DUST Tactics SSU Ground Attack Helicopter to use as air support for my Z.O.R.T. troopers -

I'm debating whether or not to have decals made for this. It will have to wait till next payday if I do have them made. Something like this perhaps -

The Slab: Wargames Factory Zombie Horde WIP #2

After I finished assembling these last week, I was in need of some round bases to provide these guys with some stability on the gaming table...

well I searched the web for some inexpensive bases and found that Renedra Ltd. makes 25mm diameter ones, 50 to a package. I then placed an order with The War Store for 2 packs, giving me 100 bases -

It only took 2 days for the bases to arrive, so once I had them, I immediately attached the zombies to them -

They work just like a charm. You may notice I've also started assembling some of the survivors in the background, more about those in a future post.
I started priming the zombies this past Thursday, but because of my work schedule, I didn't finish doing that till this afternoon -

Once the primer dried, I decided to basecoat them with Reaper MSP Ghoul Skin -

Since I have today and tomorrow off from work, I am going to try and get as much done as possible on these guys, as well as some of the survivors and the Z.O.R.T. members...oh, I did finish painting something "big" for the Z.O.R.T. members this morning...I would show it to you, but then I'd have to kill you...just kidding, I'll reveal it later on with the other "Black Project" I'm working on.

The Slab: Wargames Factory Zombie Horde WIP #1

One box assembled, one to go. Yesterday I started assembling the zombies from the first of 2 boxes of Zombie Hordes I bought, and I finished them a little while ago. They're not the most detailed figures out there, detail is soft on a lot of the parts, but if you need lots of zeds in a hurry, this kit is perfect in that regard. The one real gripe I have about this kit is that the the zombies are all on integral bases - I would of preferred that separate round bases were provided instead. The integral bases mean the figures fall over too easy if you bump the table. I need to order about 60 bases before I will proceed on to painting these.
Photos of the zombies-

I will wait to do the next Zombie Horde box, until I get some bases, so I will work on the Zombie Vixens next, as they come with separate round bases. Once they're assembled, I can proceed to getting them painted more quickly than I'll be able to with the Horde boxes.

Dead-drop: Texas DPS 2008 Dodge Charger

This past Friday, the DPS Charger I had ordered arrived...WOO-HOO! This is the nicest 1/43 scale car I've ever owned, lots of moveable parts and loads of detail - it is definitely worth what I paid for it! It is from First Response Replicas and I will definitely be picking up their DPS Tahoe, as soon as funds permit. Here are some photos -
